Affinity to Print
Affinity to Print: The Sustenance of Print Culture
explores print culture in contemporary society and
design. With a focus on publication conventions and
production, the publication features a variety of
interviews, articles and work from current designers
and studios.
Exploring the theme in its own design, the publication
takes three formats of print publication - a book, a
magazine and a newspaper - and combines them into one,
each with their own set of defined rules.
The publication digitally juxtaposes each format on
top of each other, creating a trompe-l'œil.
The main bulk of the publication is printed on 60gsm
natural coloured newsprint, with a 100gsm white coated insert.
Its six signatures are bound with a coptic stitch.
Main design features include images and interviews with;
MusaWorkLab, Atelier Carvalho Bernau, Michaël Snitker, pupilpeople,
Lundgren + Lindqvist and Mind design.
Text articles on the state of print culture in contemporary society
and its future come from Celine Leterme, James Pallister and myself.
If you would be interested in purchasing a copy, a
limited run in tabloid format may soon be available.

Graphic designer, specialising in type-led print and publication design.
Please note, this site serves as an archive of works during and up until
the end of my design education, in June 2011. Since, I have been employed
full-time with MadeThought.
Graduating with a First degree honours in 2011 from BA (Hons.)
Graphic Design at Leeds College of Art, I have a passion for print and process,
and a keen eye for detail. Driven by both image making and type,
whether technical editorial or more experimental typographic layout,
my work is classic and contemporary; it is physical and tactile, utilising
traditional printing processes and finishes, as well as digital practises.
Exploring and exploiting formats and conventions of publication design,
I endeavour to challenge the audience receipt, interaction and interpretation
of information through design.
